JustDating (JD) sends an SMS code during sign-up, and a number that has already registered a JD account can't be used again. A real, unused mobile number is the key requirement. What JustDating actually is
A lot of pages online describe JD as a "global dating app", or mix it up with other apps. Here are the facts:
- Market: Taiwan and Hong Kong. The interface and the conversations are in Traditional Chinese.

- Type: casual dating with fast matching. Users post "dates" (a dinner, a drink, a weekend trip) and others sign up for them, alongside the usual profile browsing.
- Scale: around 2.5 million installs on Google Play. JD publishes activity figures, such as dates posted and date sign-ups, but not a monthly active user count.
- Money: free to join. The VIP subscription (roughly NT$1,290 a month in Taiwan) unlocks more messaging and filters, and is billed through Apple or Google Play.
- Age: 18+ only.
Not the same app
JD is not Tapple (タップル), the Japanese app owned by CyberAgent. It isn't a Southeast Asian or Western app either. If you're outside Taiwan and Hong Kong and not planning to be there, you'll see very few people near you.
How JD's phone check works, and why free numbers fail
JD's sign-up asks for a mobile number and sends an SMS code. Two rules shape which numbers work:
- One number, one account. A number that has already registered on JD is refused, even if the old account was deleted.
- Account recovery goes through the phone. The number you verify is also how JD confirms it's you later.
Numbers on free "receive SMS online" sites are public and reused by thousands of people, so on JD they've almost always been registered already. They also break rule 2, because anyone can read the codes on that inbox, including one that resets your account.
JD doesn't publish a rule about VoIP numbers, so we won't invent one. Across the industry, dating apps commonly filter internet-calling numbers because fake profiles rely on them. Whether a code arrives depends on the upstream carrier route, JD's checks at that moment, and entering the number with the right country code. It varies by country and time of day. If nothing arrives, cancel and try another number. The 8 credits are returned to your account automatically, so a failed attempt costs only a few minutes.
Your network matters too. If you're in Taiwan or Hong Kong, sign up on your normal connection. Signing up from one country with a number from another can trigger extra checks after registration.
Step by step: register JD with SMS-Act

Dating safely on JD
Casual dating apps in Taiwan and Hong Kong are a known channel for romance and investment scams. The usual script: a very attractive match moves the chat to another messaging app within days, then brings up a "guaranteed" crypto, forex or gold platform, or a sudden emergency that needs money.
- Never transfer money or buy "investment" products because someone you met on JD suggested it.
- Be cautious about moving the chat off JD quickly. It's the first step in most scams.
