SMS-Activate announced it was ceasing operations on 2025-12-29; its official shutdown page states activity stopped from 22 December and that the balance-withdrawal channel, open until 2026-02-05, is now closed. That page also directed users to hero-sms.com. SMS-Act is an independent platform with no legal or operational connection to either.

The limits, stated plainly

Numbers are single-use, roughly a 15-minute window. No rental, no fixed numbers, no monthly-dedicated numbers.
Numbers receive text messages only. A "call me instead" or voice-readout branch cannot complete on an SMS-Act number — stay on the SMS channel, or use a local physical number.
SMS-Act does not send outbound messages.
No Telegram, no mainland China numbers, no mainland-China-only apps.

Why do free public numbers fail so often? They are shared. Anyone can read the inbox, and the popular platforms have already seen those ranges register dozens of accounts, so the re-use check rejects them. Privacy is also nil — the code is visible to everyone on the listing page.

Is a higher-priced country a better route? Not here — every country is 8 credits. Pick by platform acceptance and by matching the region the platform expects, not by cost.

What is the fastest recovery when a code stalls? Release the number rather than re-requesting on it. The credits return automatically, and a fresh draw on a different country usually beats waiting out a stalled route.
