Taiwan SMS Verification Guide: What to Do With or Without a +886 Number

Most Taiwan SMS verification problems start before the code is even sent: people assume they need a Taiwan number, find none available, and give up. In reality, the right move depends on two questions — does the app actually require +886, and is a Taiwan number in stock right now? This guide walks you through that decision and then through each step on SMS-Act.
Taiwan stock is not guaranteed
Taiwan (+886) numbers on SMS-Act come from upstream carrier SIM lines, and their stock comes and goes. We cannot promise a Taiwan number will be available when you need one. The country list on the order page shows the current situation: if Taiwan is not listed, there is no stock at the moment.
The Decision Flow at a Glance
Work through these checks in order:
- Is this a banking, payment, brokerage or telecom real-name service? → Yes: use your own mobile number. A temporary number cannot pass identity checks, whatever its country.
- Does the signup page's country code dropdown let you choose other countries? → Yes: you don't need +886. Go to Path B.
- Is the app LINE? → Yes: LINE accepts five regions. Go to Path C.
- Does the app only accept +886 (common for Taiwan-focused shopping sites and forums such as MOMO or Dcard)? → Check the order page. If Taiwan is listed, go to Path A. If not, see When Taiwan is out of stock.
Path A: Taiwan Is in Stock
When the order page lists Taiwan and the app needs a +886 number:
Step 1: Prepare your session
- Use a clean browser window or private tab so leftover cookies from earlier attempts don't get in the way
- Don't route your connection through a VPN node in a different country from your number
Step 2: Get the number
- Sign in to SMS-Act (email or Google account)
- If your balance is below 8 credits, top up through Stripe. Higher top-up tiers include more bonus credits; current tiers are shown on the recharge page
- Search for the target app in the service list
- Select Taiwan in the country list and click to get a number
Step 3: Enter it on the target app
- Choose Taiwan (+886) in the app's country selector
- Enter the number without repeating the country code. A very common error is typing +886 again after the selector has already added it, which the app then rejects as an invalid number
- Tap "Send code" and choose SMS, not a voice call. SMS-Act numbers only receive text messages
Step 4: Collect the code
- Return to the SMS-Act order page; the message appears there when it arrives
- Copy the code and enter it on the app promptly, since most apps expire their codes after a short time
- The number stays valid for 15 minutes. If nothing arrives, cancel the order; your 8 credits are returned to your account automatically
Step 5: Secure the new account
A temporary number is released after your order, so you won't be able to receive codes on it later. Right after signing up:
- Set a strong, unique password
- Add a recovery email you actually use
- Turn on an authenticator app for two-factor login if the app supports it
Path B: The App Accepts Other Countries
International apps such as Google, ChatGPT / OpenAI, Discord, Microsoft and Instagram don't lock the phone country. There's no need to wait for Taiwan stock; order a number from a country that usually has more supply:

The steps are the same as Path A; just pick the matching country code on the app. Keep your connection in line with the number: if you order a French number, don't connect through a Taiwan VPN node.

Path C: Registering LINE
LINE only accepts phone numbers from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, and states that 050 numbers and virtual or VoIP numbers are not accepted. SMS-Act numbers are carrier SIM numbers, and we offer four of those regions (Korea is not in our pool):
- Thailand or Hong Kong — try these first
- Taiwan or Japan — use them when the order page shows stock

When Taiwan Is Out of Stock
If the app only accepts +886 and Taiwan isn't on the order page:
- Check back later. Stock depends on upstream lines and can return, but we can't predict when
- Use your own Taiwan number for accounts you'll keep long term or may need to recover, since re-verification later will go to the original number
- Don't try to force it with a number from another country; an app that only lists +886 will reject it
If the Code Doesn't Arrive
Whether a code arrives depends on the upstream carrier line, the target app's risk checks at that moment, and whether each step was done correctly, and it varies by country and time of day. If the first attempt gets nothing, cancel the order and try another number. A failed order returns the 8 credits automatically, so all you spend is time.
Before retrying, check the usual suspects:
- The country code was entered twice
- The app switched to a voice call instead of SMS
- You tapped "resend" repeatedly; wait about a minute between requests, since repeated resends can trigger a cooldown
- Your connection is routed through a different country from the number

Do I always need a Taiwan number to verify a Taiwan account? No. Check the app's country dropdown. Many apps used in Taiwan are international and accept numbers from any supported country.
How long is a number valid? 15 minutes from the moment you get it. If no code arrives in that time, the credits go back to your balance automatically.
Is a Taiwan number more expensive than other countries? No. Every verification costs a flat 8 credits, whatever the country or service.
Can I use a temporary number for a bank or e-wallet? No. These services tie the number to your legal identity, so use your own mobile number.
