How it works: an internet calling service gives you a number, for example an app like Google Voice. The number sits on an internet line rather than on a carrier SIM.

After SMS-Activate Closed: One More Thing to Check
SMS-Activate announced on 29 December 2025 that it was ceasing operations. Before the closure it had a minimum refund threshold of 30 USD, and the balance withdrawal channel closed on 5 February 2026, so remaining balances can no longer be recovered through official channels.
