Colombia Phone Number (+57): Format, Country Code and How to Get One
Need quick verification codes? Start your verification journey now
A Colombia phone number uses the country code +57 and has 10 digits. If you do not live in Colombia and an app asks for a Colombian number to verify your account, you do not need a SIM card: with SMS-Act you pick the service and the country Colombia (+57), receive a temporary number on a real operator SIM, and read the code in your account. The number is reserved for you for 15 minutes, and if the code does not arrive the 8 credits are returned to your account automatically.
At a glance
- Country code +57; 10 digits, no leading zero; mobile numbers start with 3.
- A temporary Colombian number is for receiving a verification SMS, not for having a line of your own.
- SMS-Act: 8 credits per use, real operator SIM (not VoIP), credits returned automatically if the code does not arrive.
- It only receives SMS: no calls and no sending messages.
Colombia phone number format and country code
| Detail | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| International country code | +57 |
| Length | 10 digits after the code |
| Mobile numbers | Start with 3, for example +57 3XX XXX XXXX |
| Landlines | 60 + a zone digit + local number, for example +57 601 XXX XXXX (Bogotá) |
| National trunk prefix (leading 0) | None: you never dial a 0 |
| Example in international format | +57 3XX XXX XXXX |
How to enter it in a form. If the app already shows a country selector set to +57, type only the 10 digits. If it does not, type +57 followed by the 10 digits, with no spaces or leading zeros. Entering the code twice is one of the most common reasons a verification SMS never shows up.
How to call a Colombian number from abroad
Dial your country's international access code, then 57, then the 10 digits. From the US or Canada that is 011 57, from the UK and most of Europe 00 57, and from a mobile you can usually replace the access code with +, for example +57 3XX XXX XXXX. Do not add a 0 after the 57.
Ways to get a Colombian phone number
| Option | What it is | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Colombian prepaid SIM | A physical card from a local operator | It has to be registered, you need a phone to use it, and it is normally bought in Colombia |
| eSIM with a Colombian number | A digital plan from a provider | Needs a compatible device, usually a monthly fee and some setup |
| Long-term virtual number (VoIP) | A paid monthly number for calls and texts | Some apps commonly reject VoIP numbers at verification; SMS-Act does not offer this service |
| Free public numbers | A list of shared numbers | Anyone can see the code and many platforms already block them |
| SMS-Act temporary number | A Colombian real-SIM number for one code | Single use, receives SMS only |
If all you need is to receive a verification code, a temporary number is the fastest route and needs no SIM or device. If you need a line you keep, or calls, pick one of the first three. For the difference between free and paid options, see receiving SMS online: free vs paid.
How to get a Colombian number with SMS-Act
- Create your account at sms-act.net/activate. You only need an email address.
- Add credits with Stripe. The higher the top-up plan, the more bonus credits you get; current plans are shown on the top-up page.
- Search for the service you want to verify.
- Choose Colombia (+57) in the country list. If it does not appear for that service, try another country whose prefix the platform accepts.
- Receive your number and copy it. It stays reserved for you for 15 minutes.
- Paste it into the app and request the SMS.
- Read the code in your SMS-Act dashboard and enter it in the app.
- If it does not arrive, cancel the order and try another number; the 8 credits are returned to your account automatically.
Colombian number availability is shown when you place the order and can vary by time and service. Colombia is a moderate-demand country, so if no number is available at that moment, try again later or pick another country.
What a Colombian number is used for
A Colombian number is useful when the platform has users in Colombia or compares the number's prefix with the user's country:
- AI and global accounts: OpenAI and ChatGPT, Google and Gmail or Claude.
- Services with a large Latin American base: Rappi or Mercado Libre, which expect a number from the region.
- Messaging and social: WhatsApp or Instagram, where the result depends heavily on each platform's risk checks.
- Sign-up testing for a website or app aimed at the Colombian market, to check the flow with a real +57 prefix.
Whether the code arrives depends on the carrier route, the platform's risk checks at that moment and whether you follow the steps correctly; results vary from one service to another. If the first attempt fails, change number or country; the credits for the failed attempt are returned to your account. SMS-Act does not offer mainland China numbers or services for Telegram.
What a temporary Colombian number cannot do
- It does not work for Nequi, Daviplata, banks or official procedures. They require a number issued in your name and tied to your identity.
- It does not take calls or send SMS. It only receives text messages and does not read codes by voice. If the app offers "call me", stay on SMS.
- It is single use. It cannot keep two-factor authentication (2FA) working for months, because the number is released after verification. SMS-Act does not offer number rental.
- Each platform decides. Some services with advanced security may reject any virtual number.
- Respect each platform's terms. Using it for fraud or abuse is prohibited.
If the code does not arrive
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Country code entered twice, or an extra 0 | Type only the 10 digits if the app already adds +57 |
| The number was already used on that platform | Request a new number |
| The carrier is slow | Wait 1 minute before requesting a resend |
| The platform rejects the number | Try another number or, if possible, another country |
| The app compares your location | Check that your IP and the number's country are not far apart |
If it still does not arrive, cancel the order: the credits return to your account and you have only lost a few minutes.

Can I get a Colombian phone number without living in Colombia?
For receiving a verification code, yes: you can use a temporary Colombian number. With SMS-Act you pick the service and Colombia (+57), receive the number and read the SMS in your account.
